IIEC was engaged by Oxford Policy Management for designing a program for supporting the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) in conceiving agricultural vulnerability reduction strategies by prioritizing climate resilient crops that are techno-economically viable and agronomically sustainable for crop diversification. Further to this, the crops that ranked highest on a multiple criteria of climate resilience and economic benefits were taken up for value chain analysis to expand the market potential and removal of barriers to benefit small farmers. IIEC assisted in applying the framework and analyzed the gaps for 20 FPCs from 4 districts of Maharashtra.
IIEC was assigned the project of the scoping study for the design of the environmental quality enhancement and climate change mitigation project in India initiated by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to assist SDC to develop a project with a long term intervention strategy on corrective and preventive actions for improving the air quality and combating impacts of climate change in an affected region in India. The project undertook the review of trends in the source apportioned air pollution levels in the various regions in India. The project tapped on international experience in air pollution management, particularly of Switzerland to design SDC’s interventions and complement on-going efforts in India.
IIEC worked as an expert evaluator in the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) water conservation and climate change TOT program in Rural Rajasthan. Centre for Social Research (CSR) implemented the project in collaboration with HSF to design and implement a training program to educate rural communities in Rajasthan on water conservation, climate change and gender. The Training of Trainers–TOT program was designed and executed in four phases (2012- 2015) with target focus on elected woman representatives and to-be elected woman representatives in selected blocks. IIEC evaluated the impact and effectiveness of the TOT program in fulfilling the program objectives. The primary objectives of the TOT program was to I) increase awareness on water issues and gender inequality, ii) increase knowledge amongst Elected Women Representatives (EWR) about tools and existing water conservation schemes, and iii) build capacity among EWRs to lead water conservation initiatives at village level. The evaluation provided recommendations for further improvement resulting in wider replication and impact at grassroots level.
IIEC was engaged by UNDP to prepare a GEF Full Scale Proposal Document for the UNDP-GEF project on Market Transformation and Removal of Barriers for Effective Implementation of the State-Level Climate Change Action Plans for the states of Manipur and Jharkhand. The project objective was to stimulate implementation of climate change mitigation actions stated in the State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCCs). As part of the project IIEC prepared the full-scale proposal document, CEO endorsement document and emissions reduction calculation tool. IIEC worked closely with UNDP and state nodal agencies in Jharkhand and Manipur in drafting these documents. IIEC undertook, extensive primary and secondary research on RE and EE sectors of the two states; conducted two state-level and one national level workshop under the project seeking stakeholder feedback, developed Marginal Abatement Cost Curves (MACC) for selecting mitigation options in the two states, identified and engaged with co-financing institutions at state level for the project, developed detailed project implementation plan for the identified mitigation actions for the states.
